Futurama

Futurama is a wild animated comedy about a guy who really does not belong in his own time. The show centers on Philip J. Fry, a New York City pizza delivery boy from the late 1990s who gets frozen by accident and wakes up a thousand years later.

He lands in a weird, retro-futuristic version of the 31st century, full of flying cars, talking robots, and all kinds of strange alien life. Fry ends up working for Planet Express, a delivery company that ships packages across the galaxy, which gives him and his crew plenty of chances to get into trouble.

The whole thing started in the mid-90s when Matt Groening, the guy behind The Simpsons, got an idea for a new show. He brought in David X. Cohen to help build the world and the characters, and together they pitched it to Fox.

The network picked it up, and the show first aired on March 28, 1999. It ran on Fox until August 10, 2003, and then production stopped. But the show would not stay dead.

It found a second life in reruns on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block from 2003 to 2007, picking up a whole new batch of fans.

Then came the revival. In 2007, Futurama came back as a series of four direct-to-video movies. The last one hit shelves in early 2009.

After that, Comedy Central made a deal with 20th Century Fox Television to air the old episodes and also cut those four movies into sixteen half-hour episodes, which became the show's fifth season. So the story kept going, and Fry kept stumbling through the future, one misadventure at a time.
